My "Green Thumb" can boast many successes and far more failures. I have never been successful in keeping any orchids alive for more than a few weeks in my home here in Michigan.
It was very easy to care for orchids in Hawai'i. Growing up in Hawai'i, my Mom used to have a variety of orchids growing in her gardens with little to no care in the humid, tropical weather.
On our last trip home in August 2012, my Mom had so many beautiful orchids and I asked her how is she taking care of them. "...if I remember, I water them..."
"Do you use any fertilizers?"
"No. They are too expensive. I just water them."
